A new publication on youth participation and civic education is now available, bringing together practical examples, participatory approaches and experiences that explore how young people can become more active contributors to democratic and community life.
Developed within the MV International EYS 2026 , the publication focuses on approaches that can support young people in developing civic competences, expressing their perspectives, engaging with community issues and participating meaningfully in democratic processes.
Exploring practices of youth participation
The publication presents a collection of examples from the Balkans, including participatory workshops, digital consultations, deliberative processes and simulation activities. These experiences show different ways of creating spaces for youth voice, connecting participation with real-life issues, using evidence to inform discussion and creating opportunities for dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
Alongside the examples, the publication identifies a number of approaches that can be adapted to different local contexts. These include creating meaningful opportunities for youth participation, supporting young people’s perspectives with evidence, encouraging dialogue and collaboration, and connecting participation with concrete forms of follow-up and action.
From international experiences to local participation
The publication also connects these broader experiences with the participatory activities organised on 2 and 3 October in Tempio Pausania, Italy. Drawing on the approaches explored in the collection, young participants will have the opportunity to investigate local public spaces, collect evidence, develop recommendations and engage in dialogue with local public authorities.
In this way, the publication provides both a collection of examples and a practical reference for considering how different participation methods can be adapted to local contexts.
